Why we chose Alice JOY
People often ask us why the name Alice?
Alice was our dear Grandma…she was born in 1912 in Orange City, Iowa. When she was In her twenties, she and her sister Wilma took the train to Washington State and settled in Lynden. To support herself, she worked for several wealthy families in the area where she cooked and cleaned – but this also involved hosting dinner parties, where she developed an appreciation for a beautifully set table!
She had an eye for style and loved to entertain. We’ve all inherited her reputation for being the “Hostess with the Mostest” … both in spirit and in the beautiful pieces she left us, from crystal, to fine china, to silver, to her beloved tea set. From an early age, we dined off china tea cups at her tea parties and had birthday cakes presented to us on a crystal cake pedestal, and learned how to both be a guest and treat a guest. Entertaining is about making your guests feel comfortable, and she was always able to do that! So Grandma, here is to you and all the JOY you brought us! We love you!
